Haha, wrong musical, I know.
Name: Steph
Age: 22... I'm old, I know!
Interests and Hobbies: Music. LOVE it. Singing, especially. Writing music. Playing piano, saxophone, flute.. yeah. I love it. Dancing. Swimming. I love reading. I love sleeping. Haha. I love watching mindless TV..
What does Rent mean to you?: Oh, god. Okay, well I was first introduced to RENT in 1999 when my choir director had us sing SOL. I had that crazy high C solo and so I did a LOT of studying of the song and trying to mimic that solo.. and then, I listened to the rest of the cast recording. I wanted to see it on stage so many times, but I didn't - until last year. I knew the stage version pretty intimately though and when the movie came out, I was horrible and compared it SO much. Which is silly, because really, you can't compare the two. They're just different. ANYWAY. I finally saw RENT on stage last year, now it's three times, one more on Broadway this summer, and hopefully the tour with Anthony and Adam too. Okay, that's totally not what the question was asking, I don't know why I babbled for so long. When I was in high school, I dealt with a LOT of crazy stuff that went down. RENT got me through it. Not even lying. RENT made me know more things. I learned about real life outside of my little bubble. I learned about love and tragedy and death and family. RENT introduced me to Idina Menzel who I swear has changed my life, to Tracie Thoms who is one of my favorite people in the world, to Anthony Rapp who inspires me an insane amount. To Fredi who still shocks me with her crazy voice! (And of course to Jesse.. *swoons*). Oh! And Daphne.. Wil- .. okay, you get the picture. RENT helped me be more accepting of things I didn't understand - in other people and in myself. RENT seriously changed my life. I thank Jonathan Larson constantly for creating it, for writing the music, and for sharing his talents. My life would be so different without having known RENT.
